Best Practices for Setting Up Parking Boss in Your HOA

Ready to implement Parking Boss’s smart parking solution in your HOA community? Get tips for setting it up effectively.

At Parking Boss, we want to set you up for success as you install your new parking solution. Here are some tips to help you utilize our tools to their fullest potential.

1. Install clear signage with your rules.

People won’t follow your parking rules if they don’t know what they are. That’s especially true for visitors, but a visual reminder will also help your residents.

The best way to show that your community is serious about your parking rules is to post professional-grade signage with anti-graffiti coating. That way, it’ll be hard to miss and visitors will know exactly where they can park. When you get your signs through Parking Boss, we will help you determine what language will be most effective and advise where to place the signs.

2. Integrate security cameras.

Parking Boss is designed to integrate with security cameras, HOA software, and gate control systems, including security systems like Flock Safety. While you can use our solution without cameras, having them lets you get more out of our tools

For example, you can:

  • Use license plate reader (LPR) features to identify which vehicles have valid permits without dealing with physical passes or stickers.
  • Gather information quickly when residents report problems like blocked doorways or missing packages.
  • Gain camera footage with details that could help law enforcement after vandalism, theft, or break-ins, such as when an unknown vehicle entered and how long it stayed.
  • Save your HOA’s team time on patrolling and verifying parking information.

3. Install signal boosters if needed.

Self-serve online parking registration is great, but only if visitors can access it. Parking areas are often surrounded by signal-sapping materials like concrete or brick, which creates a problem when someone needs to register their vehicle. Residents might also worry about being unable to make emergency-related calls from the parking garage.

Signal boosters, extenders, a distributed antenna system (DAS), or cellular repeaters are often great ways to get around poor signals in parking areas. Your guests and residents will thank you for boosting their cell reception in the garage!

4. Have all vehicles register.

Parking Boss works best if everyone registers their vehicles — both residents and guests. That way, our system can:

  • Automatically flag non-permitted vehicles or keep them out of your garage entirely, depending on your gate control setup.
  • Let guests know when their parking time is up.
  • Identify vehicles that are parked in someone else’s spot.
  • Identify potential fraud and cheating, such as car license plate numbers that are very close to a banned vehicle’s license plate number.

Registration also makes it easier to catch repeat parking violations. By registering each vehicle and keeping a history of any associated parking violations, you can see if someone has broken the same rule in the past and enforce your rules appropriately.

5. Use Smart Warning Stickers.

Parking Boss’s Smart Warning Stickers are a professional and effective way to let parking offenders know your community is serious. Your patrol team can quickly place the appropriate-style sticker on the offending vehicle.

Each sticker has its own warning number linked to the violation details in our Field Agent software. The vehicle owner can scan a QR code on the sticker to learn about the violation.

6. Plan to enforce your rules.

Signs and warnings only go so far. Your community needs to be prepared to tow non-resident vehicles that do not respond to repeated warnings. You may also need to issue homeowner violations for homeowners who repeatedly break the community’s rules.

Parking Boss’s enforcement features, including Auto Intelligence, work with our LPR camera system to identify offending vehicles on your property without frequent manual checks. This system is map-based, so you exactly know where to look for each offending vehicle. From there, it’s up to you to issue warnings or more serious consequences according to your policies.
