Luminous, based outside Seattle, WA started as a graphic and web design company initially serving a handful of small local companies.
We began designing our first web-based application for a local healthcare clinic. This eventually became our first software-as-a-service product and was used by dozens of companies in the healthcare, fitness, municipalities, and energy industries.
During this period we also served as an interactive design agency for several well-known brands including Microsoft, Xbox, T-Mobile, YMCA, Fluke Networks, and ESPN.
In 2009, Luminous was awarded a Sports Emmy® Award for the design and development of an interactive online story feature for ESPN.
Recognizing the need to serve small-businesses, we launched our second SaaS product, Rocketship. The website content management solution was utilized by over 100 small businesses.
Nathan bought his first home, a condo. During a board meeting he quickly discovered the “unsolvable” guest parking problem the HOA was experiencing and believed software could fix it. That evening he and Joel started work on what would eventually become Parking Boss.
We continued to work as an interactive agency for additional companies including UW Medicine, Watson Furniture, and ESPN Europe. We worked four days a week on consulting while dedicating one day (and many evenings) to our new start-up.
We hired our first full-time Parking Boss employee.
Parking Boss signed its 100th community in February 2017.
In mid-2017, we implemented our first interactive smart parking map for managing a 2,000 space residential parking garage in downtown LA.
We launched our 400th Parking Boss customer in mid 2019.
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Luminous launched Amenity Boss™ to solve the problem of reopening amenities safely and fairly.
On November 16th at OPTECH, we introduced Community Boss™, an interactive hub for sharing community spaces built on the types of smartphone maps we use every day.
Known by most of our multifamily customers as Parking Boss or Amenity Boss, we decided to re-brand as Luminous and offer our three distinct products to the multifamily industry.
To serve our customers better and create room for an expanding set of solutions, we re-branded as Community Boss.
We launched two successful property management software integrations, including RealPage OneSite and Entrata for easier move-ins and move-outs.
We also launched two separate access control integrations with Gatewise and RemoteLock for permit-based parking gate and amenity door access.
2024
Community Boss launches Auto Intelligence and mobile LPR solution for more effective and accurate parking enforcement.
Late 2024, Community Boss launched it’s partnership with Flock Safety to integrate LPR technology with Parking Boss while providing additional security to communities.
